Glamorous Gifts

11 Nov

Gift guide opening spread

I’ve recently completed one of my favourite jobs ever – compiling this year’s Christmas Gift Guide for Glamour magazine (the UK edition). Visiting all the Christmas preview press shows, making a virtual wishlist of what to include, and gathering together over 1,000 amazing gift ideas before making the final edit… it’s been FUN.

The results of all this hard work (well, someone has to do it…) are in this month’s issue of Glamour, with the December 2015 cover date. A fabulous 94 presents have made the cut, spread out over eight pages and grouped by colour – and there really is something for everyone, and every budget. Regular blog readers will know I love a bargain, so while the posh brands like Mulberry are in there, there’s also plenty of surprises for those of us with teensy budgets.

I won’t spoil it for you, but here are a few of my favourite products that feature in the guide (below). And if you need any more inspiration, I’ll be sharing some of the lovely bits that didn’t make the mag over the next couple of weeks!

alphabet letter mugs £2 each Matalan

Giving a gift with someone’s initial on always seems that little bit more personal, and over the years, I’ve given many a letter mug to friends (often packaged with a fancy box of tea or coffee) as a thank you or birthday present.

Thing is, these mugs usually cost around a tenner each. So when I saw these fab alphabet mugs from Matalan for, wait for it, just £2 each, I got more than a little excited. At that price, you could even splash out on a set of several for a family; or buy a pair for a couple.

Obviously the popular letters are bound to get snapped up first, so if you want one (or several) better get yourself down to Matalan or visit their website pronto.

letter a mug Matalan £2PS: Love the idea but not got there fast enough? Oliver Bonas do almost idential alphabet mugs for the more pricely sum of £10 each, here. In fact, they have a whole range of alphabet stuff, from candles to washbags – well worth checking out.

Not so ugly mugs

5 Jan

Christmas is over (sob!) and it’s minging outside, so to cheer yourself up, why not treat yourself to a nice hot mug of tea?

And what better to serve it in than one of these gorgeous china mugs from Magpie at http://www.cubicuk.com? There’s one for every letter of the alphabet, each illustrated with quirky pictures in the mid-century modern style. They cost £7.50 each and come in a lovely gift box (bottom).

I’m putting my order in already!
